Background Information

The Highways Agency Metadata Registry is implemented by Mott MacDonald on behalf of the Highways Agency.

The Metadata Registry service aims to support the efficient use and development of Highways Agency technology and systems, and to to reduce the Agency's costs associated with system development and use of data.

A series of SSR/NetServ projects from 2003-2009 took the Metadata Registry from research through to operations. The current registry project will run until at least February 2011.

Registry Background - In Detail

Available for download below are a set of detailed overview documents covering the operational trial and pilot phases of the ITS Metadata Registry.

The Operational Trials report considers the roles of the registry within the business processes of user organisations, and these are combined with the experience of the trial to define user requirements for the registry service. The bulk of the report present the current assessment of registry issues: structure, processes, implementation, and the business benefits of a registry as well as providing overall statistic for the trial.

This Pilot Report presents the results of a one year pilot operation and summarises conclusions reached in each potential area of application, and makes recommendations for further progress of the registry as a data management tool.

The reports also assess the overall success of the trial and pilot against the objectives that were established at the outset and concludes with recommendations arising from the experiences gained.
