This data registry is an implementation of the standard ISO 14817 "Transport information and control systems -- Requirements for an ITS/TICS central Data Registry and ITS/TICS Data Dictionaries", developed by ISO TC 204 (ITS) WG 1 "architecture".

The principal non-domain-specific metadata registry standard is ISO/IEC 11179, produced by ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC 32 WG 2 "metadata". This working group also work on the draft standard ISO 19763 ("Metamodel Framework for Interoperability") and organise the excellent annual Open Forum on Metadata Registries. ISO 14817 was influenced by an earlier version of ISO/IEC 11179.
